However, people don't read this series for sex, because if you do, you will be sorely dissapointed. Most of that is "off page" anyway.
It's very obvious that John Simpson knows what he's talking about when it comes to the secret service, covert-ops missions and the like. I'm sure there are lots of things they can manage to get themselves into. Just as life gets settled, Jack is kidnapped by Gaddafi's men for events that David put into moti Condor and the Crown is the fifth, and most recent, book in the Condor Series by John Simpson. Sep 28, Vicktor Alexander rated it it was ok Recommends it for: Readers of the Condor Series.
Usually I like John Simpson's books. There was very little to no sex and you know I like my steamy mansex! David was overbearing and rude and in some ways very callous, not just to the terrorists and kidnappers that deserved it but to Shane, his husband, and to Victoria, his friend and the current president of the United States. The interactions between David and Shane were so UN-loving compared to previous books that had I been a character in the book I would have asked if they were separating.
David was so focused on his position, his title, his power then on revenge and doing what he wanted, when he wanted it, that I felt so bad for Shane. Shane was like David's little puppy wagging his tail and practically begging for David to show him affection. I did think Jack, their adopted son was hilariously funny, especially with his using profanity and that is yet another reason why this book got a 2 rating instead of a 1. And I loved the interactions and the budding relationship between Darren and Prince Michael. Honestly, I wanted to read more about them than anyone else because they had the only and most interesting parts of the entire book.
And then the way it ended I was pissed off. I don't know if Mr Simpson did that because there's another book following, which I sincerely hope that there is, but either way it was almost like the series finale when the show just ended in the middle of the sentence.

I just found out that this is the final book in this series which just makes the ending and the whole book that much more disappointing. I really wanted to like this one just as much as the other four. Sep 27, Angela Stone rated it it was ok. The book starts off with Jack who's supposed to be a teenager, suddenly regressing about five years. He acts close to eight, and a very young eight at that.
It feels all all of the previously built back-story and characterizations just falls away with-in moments of the book staring. As an example small spoiler warning at the end of book 4 Mary the human, not the dog decides to stay in America so that she can retire or semi-retire. As I reader I was quiet happy with this decision and I was looking forward to conflict that this might cause. It all seemed like she had been waiting at the phone just praying that David would ask her to go rather than having previously told him she didn't want to leave the US and she wanted to retire. Shane is totally flat in the book.
He has no opinion, no voice, he's just there to do whatever David says. Seemingly waiting for his direction on everything. Even with all of the heavy plot and drama, which doesn't lend it's self to a lot of the sex we're used to seeing, there was something largely missing from their relationship.
Condor and the Crown
I don't want to sound like this book is all bad, a bright spot was the budding relationship between Darren and Prince Micheal. They're a couple of cute kids who are falling in-love despite the challenges of their social status. I would love to see more on their story. Overall I was disappointed in this story and it's ending but I would recommend it to anyone who has read the Condor series.
This is supposed to be the last book in the series featuring David and Shane. Oct 09, Almonda rated it liked it Shelves: Ive just put Condor and the Crown down and am wondering what exactly it is that makes me want to give this novel only 3 Stars. I really really love the first 4 books, the relationship between David and Shane and also the novelty of having a gay president and the way he takes action.
In this last installment in the Condor Series, the relationship between David and Shane left me somewhat cold.. This time it feels clean, almost manual-like, not-personal anymore. It was nice seeing all the characters again and how their new son fits nicely into the family.. I have to admit I was somewhat disturbed with the whole Gaddafi angle..
David stayed true to his way of taking care of things.. This whole story has a sense of an old Western where everyone is ready to draw their gun and starts shooting around, but the characters and interpersonal relationships are left behind. However, their peace is shattered when Jack is kidnapped. With the help from President Victoria Shane and David embark on a journey to rescue their son.
I have never seen David and Shane go into such darkness but they will do anything to bring back their son and then make the monsters who abducted him pay with their lives. I loved it, anyone who loves and feels very protective of the David, Shane and Jack and 2 little puppies are making themselves at home in Britain while David is an Ambassador.
I loved it, anyone who loves and feels very protective of their loved ones will see themselves in David and Shane's actions. It's a good look into the lives of two amazing characters. The kidnapping of Jack and the death of his security guys was handled well, as was the pain Shane and David suffered on learning he was gone.
But I felt that the rescue behind the Libyan border went too smoothly Despite that, I really love David and Shane and their dedication to each other, all the people they love and their country. Jack is great kid with a huge personal It's a good look into the lives of two amazing characters. Jack is great kid with a huge personality. Darren falling for Prince Michael was a great plot twist that caught me totally by surprise. Anyway, no more rambling. I found this book in the series, well written, compelling, and filled with great moments from characters we've come to love over the course of the series.
Sep 15, Maame rated it liked it. This book was something else. Mr Simpson write his couples in these books like a boss and his house maid. I mean a gay ex-president and his bodyguard husband what can be more hot than that and yet they were like some big man and his butler. The husband was just too timid. It annoys me when men are like that. A little affection would have been nice.

Anyway the mystery was good. Anything else am not really sure. The only thing am really disappointed about is the couple they just didn't seem like a couple. Dec 26, Denicemarcell added it.
