Doce relíquia mortal
Pam Yes should have read this one first though. Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. I think this is the book where Roberts announced that she is J. Robb, but I really feel that it could have been better done. This book has since been split into two separate books: Hot Rocks and Big Jack , but I think that splitting the book has done it a disservice as it really needs to be read as a whole to capture the nuances completely.
The first half of this book is the Hot Rocks half, and I have to say, I wasn't that impressed with this plot! Lainie and Max had nothing of the courtship or I think this is the book where Roberts announced that she is J. Lainie and Max had nothing of the courtship or romance, they just have sex a couple of times and it's insta-love! I had a hard time believing it, as I had a hard time believing that Lainie's friends would just totally accept that she's been lying to them for years! I would have hard feelings over it, and it just was hard for me to suspend disbelief there.
The heist story was interesting, but the villains actions were very predictable.

The second half is Big Jack , and it is much better done! The villain is again predictable here, but their crimes were not. It was interesting to see where everyone had ended up and get Eve's look at the now 50 year old crime. The pacing was faster, and there was more excitement overall.
Just a much smoother story, and we didn't have the messy entanglements of a new romance to deal with! All things considered, this was an interesting addition to the series, and one definitely worth checking out! It will probably be a long time before you hear me use clever or like regarding Nora Roberts again-- even though three people I adore tend to find her books what they need at a certain time.
As Nora Roberts, her novels Take note: Robb, she offers such novels as Portrait in Death. Now she unites her separate identities in a riveting two-part novel that combines edgy suspense and romantic passion - and journeys through past, present, and future. But Laine's past has just caught up with her. Her long-lost uncle has visited her shop, leaving a cryptic warning before dying in the street, run down by a car.
Soon afterward, Laine's home is ransacked. Now it's up to her, and an enigmatic stranger named Max Gannon, to find out who's chasing her, and why. The answer lies in a hidden fortune - a fortune that will change Laine's life. In Part Two, J. The treasure that Laine and Max sought has never been fully recovered. And now someone else is pursuing the missing gems Sharp-witted and sexy, Eve is used to traveling in the shadowy corners outside the law, in a future where crime meets cutting-edge technology. She will attempt to track down the diamonds once and for all - and stop the danger and death that have surrounded them for decades.

To view it, click here. A book of 2 halves. The first set in the present day - the second in the land of "In Death". I could have done without the first half really. A diamond heist is the basis of both stories. Laine runs an antiques store in the middle of nowhere - an old family friend visits and ends up dead. She doesn't know what he wanted but it seems some people think she's hiding something. Her house is burgled etc. A smoking hot PI Max becomes interested in her love at first sight. Laine isn't who everyone t A book of 2 halves. Laine isn't who everyone thinks she is.
She's changed her name - tried to break the link to her father - a man who loves the con - Big Jack. Yes, unknown to Laine she's in possession of diamonds and a very bad man is looking for them.
The story was harmless enough - the problem was I just wanted to get it over and done with, so I could get to Roarke. Many years later Laine and Max's grand-daughter writes a book about how they met and the diamond heist that brought them together. Not long after - a friend ends up dead while house sitting for her - because some of the diamonds were never recovered and they think Samantha knows where they are.
The villain was a nasty piece of work who took after his grandfather I twigged that very early on and the story doesn't try to hide it anyway. Roarke was very interested in the story - there's something magical about diamonds and it brought back some memories for him. But again this story re-inforces just how perfect Roarke and Eve are for each other. They will do everything they can to protect each other, be there for each other. I just love them to death. This is two novellas written by Nora Roberts and her alter-ego J. I re-read the In Death series and re-read the second part of this book as I do so.
It is a nice edition to the series and involves solving and finding lost diamonds. The two stories together work very well and you should read both. This is an in between the numbers book in the In Death series. The story takes place in two time periods. The book really just questions the role o This is an in between the numbers book in the In Death series. The book really just questions the role of nature vs nurture which is an important question in the lives of both Eve and Roarke. Both were average stories. I found myself somewhat bored with the reading.
I've read them previously and wasn't thrilled to revisit them. The romance was too fast. Within two days, they are having sex and declaring their love for each other. This just seems too fast for me. As for the in Death, it was better than the Roberts romance but didn't grab me and hold me.
As usual, once I got part of the way into the story, it grabbed me but it didn't hold my attention as some of her other books. I'd still recommend reading both, they were good just not her normal stellar stories. I enjoyed this, but not as much as the other In Death books. I think that it was mismanaged expectations on my part, since I didn't even read the summary, and I didn't realize that the first half was going to be by Nora Roberts did people not know that Nora Roberts and JD Robb were the same person when this was published? The Eve Dallas parts were fine.
Adored Peabody adjusting to making Detective and her ridiculous wardrobe. I so want to see the threatened Mira taking Eve shopping Eve didn't know what separates were! The first half though, was nearly unreadable. I am currently working my way through what I own of the In Death series by J. I honestly forgot I had this one, so I went a little out of order. I guess it has been a while. Part 1 was good, if you're into stories about heists. It is well written, well paced, creative, and just the right length.
Part 2, which is the In Death portion of the story is also good. It nicely wraps up the story begun in Part 1. I think it is really clever the way these two stories fit together. It made for a fun, interesting read. This was an interesting concept, sort of a mash-up of this author's different writing personas. And, while I am a fan of "both", this really wasn't my favorite of either. What you have are two separate stories, but linked. The first story deals with a "present day" crime, that doesn't get completely resolved.
The second story follows up on this "old mystery", many years later, during Eve Dallas' time. Of course, she and Rourke get caught up in it. Two tales - one written as Nora Roberts - a young woman is drawn back into her father's life of crime when he, along with several others, manages to steal over 25 million dollars worth of diamonds.
The second written as J. Robb - folks are being murdered and it appears the link between them is the theft mentioned above. Each story can well stand on its own and together they have a neatly packaged finish. An interesting idea to blend "two" authors in a continuation of one story. The first half of the book written by Nora Roberts describes the beginning of the mystery, and then the last half of the book written by JD Robb has Eve and her crew from the In Death series solve the balance of the mystery and bring the whole thing full circle.
The most intriguing thing about the book is that it appears that two authors wrote the book, when in actuality it's one author writing under two names.

I wasn't a big fan of part 1, for some reason it just didn't hook me, even though heists are totally plotlines that interest me. I even liked the couple! It just felt like it was dragging for some reason. Once Part 2 started I liked the book much more. Eve and Peabody had great dialogue and interactions. I pretty much guessed the mystery.
It still didn't have the oomph of a usual ID book, but still decently good. This review is only of the first part of the book before the story shifts to Eve Dallas and crew.
Hidden Riches by Nora Roberts (3 star ratings)
I found this part of the story to unimaginably dull with flat and uninteresting characters as well as a plot that was boring and predictable.
